Elena's Bio

Elena Lopez Sans dancer choreographer and teacher of dance yoga and the Alexander Technique lives in New York since 1987 where she initially came to pursue dance and choreography.
Prior to come to New York Elena accomplished the career on modern dance with a BA in dance and the 4 year yoga teacher training in the line of Krishnamacharya and danced and taught in Europe.
When Elena moved to New York she choreographed and danced intensely and offered her first performance with her dance company at la Mama first street workshop with the help of a grant of the Generalitat. then she performed in many other different venues as Ps122 Saint Mark's church, Columbia University, Spoke the Hub and many other places in New York and abroad. Elena obtained several grants to support her work.
In 1993 she was certified as an Alexander Technique teacher for the Studio for the Alexander technique and the Alexander Technique International, and she started to teach Alexander lessons and briefly linking the Alexander Technique and yoga, Since 1993 she offers ongoing classes and workshops of "Alexander Technique and Yoga" at three learning levels. Shortly she also begins to offer her classes of Dance of Yoga. In 2009 Elena started to offer gatherings on Sacred Dance. Elena has taught at many different places in different communities including Brooklyn Arts Exchange, The Energy Center in Brooklyn, The New York Open Center in Manhattan and the YMCA

Dancing choreographing and teaching Elena has traveled to 6 different continents. Most recently places like Morocco, Brazil, Hawaii and briefly she is planning to go to India where she will teach at a rehabilitation center in Bangalore.
Elena lives regularly in New York where she continues dancing choreographing and teaching and offers Alexander Technique, Yoga, Dance and their integration, as well as Sacred Dance. Also she is a certified Reiki practitioner. In addition, she is part of Moving for Life, giving somatic dance and movement classes and lectures trough out New York City.

Alexander Technique and Yoga with Elena Lopez Sans

Explore the link between the ancient practice of yoga and the Alexander technique. Both practices enhance each other, and help its practitioners to prevent and relieve pain and discomfort, improve posture, and deepen yoga practice. This practice brings grace, ease and efficiency to daily life as well as to more specialized activities for actors musicians dancers, athletes, and others. It offers as well the space to experience the power of “less is more” and opens to the grace and flow of change for well-being. *Alexander Technique and Yoga I welcomes students of all levels and physical conditions and is for everyone who chooses practice it.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Elena Lopez Sans is a certified Teacher Member of the Alexander Technique International, a Registered Somatic Movement Educator and a certified dance and Yoga teacher for more than 25 years. She offers the “Alexander Technique and Yoga” at three learning levels since 1993 Her Alexander Technique and Yoga ongoing group in Brooklyn just celebrated her 13 year. A dancer and choreographer she has been teaching and offering her work in six different continents. Elena teachers regularly in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Everybody can practice yoga if they choose to do so!



Come and join us in this personalized and friendly yoga class where we will explore the benefits of yoga though a gentle flow of movement and yoga postures. If you thought that yoga postures are too difficult for you, this class may change your mind! In a permissive and supportive atmosphere we adapt the yoga to your needs making it really accessible to any level of fitness. If you want to prevent or are recovering from an injury or just simply enjoy a meditative approach these classes are for you!

Elena Lopez Sans

Elena has been teaching and learning yoga for over 25 years, She also has many years of experience on dance and Alexander Technique. Her yoga approach is based on the line of Krishnamacharya (often called the father of modern yoga) which emphasizes adapting yoga to the individual not the individual to yoga, and has great focus on healing and working on all aspects of yoga as well.
